Marketing Monday: Burger King and ASL

This Burger King video came out last month in time to celebrate National ASL Day, and I'm giving it an A+. It hits all the sweet spots: on-brand, fun, meaningful, and emotion-inducing enough to have excellent viral/share potential. It also reflects positively on the brand in the community. (The store used for this is in DC, near Gallaudet University, which as you may or may not know is a private university for the deaf and hard of hearing.)

Bravo, Burger King.

Marketing Monday: Marketing Nuggets

This LinkedIn listicle is a treasure trove of interesting B2B marketing facts, inspiring tidbits, and thought-provoking stats for "the modern marketer". This has been fun to go back to and browse from time to time. Something new pops out at me with every pass, and I'm curious to see where we are in another year with these numbers.

My personal favorites are:

“Content Marketing is all the marketing that’s left.” (Seth Godin)

78% of marketers said they saw increased traffic with as little as 6 hours a week invested in Social Media Marketing.

"Content is fire, social media is gasoline.” (Jay Baer)

82% of marketers who blog see positive ROI for their inbound marketing. (Holla!)

54% of B2B marketers said they have generated leads from social media.

“Whether you’re in the B2B or B2C sales side and whether or not your product is a cheap impulse buy or a multi-million dollar long term sales cycle, your business is now – without a doubt – a media company as well.” (Mitch Joel)

66% to 90% of the buying journey is complete before prospects contact a vendor. (Takeaway: Would you buy from you? What are roadblocks in your research and buying paths? Reduce as many of those barriers to entry as you can for potential clients. Also? If a client has determined they need you, they need you.)

95% of website visitors leave without leaving an email address. (Dang.)

80% of marketing emails are never opened. (Double dang. Though as both a consumer and an email marketer, I believe it.)

"Marketing is telling the world you’re a rock star. Content Marketing is showing the world you are one.” (Robert Rose)

Marketing Monday: Well Played, Amazon.

My social feeds are blowing up this morning with mentions of Amazon's announcement about changes to Prime membership options.

Currently - or rather, until this announcement - the only option for Prime was an annual fee for an all-encompassing package, which included free two day shipping, unlimited streaming of Prime shows, photo storage, some free monthly Kindle books, Prime music access, etc.

As of last night, there are multiple options for membership. Rather than just an annual fee, you can now purchase their TV streaming service for $8.99 a month, or subscribe to Prime on a monthly basis for $10.99.

In a world of Hulu Plus and Netflix, this seemed inevitable. And for two bucks more a month you get all the shipping and other benefits Prime offers?

Smart, smart, smart.

TechCrunch has a good write-up on it today, which you can find here.

Coincidentally, I was recently reading this article from Money that came out on Thursday, discussing who subscribes to Amazon. Some of the figures that staggered me:

- More than 50% of American households are Prime subscribers; up from ~35% about two years ago.

- In households that earn more than $112k a year, that figure rises to more than 70%!

I can't wait to see how the numbers change with these new membership options.

Are you taking advantage of these new subscription options?
